1967 C-10 Owned by Dick & Jennie Weldon

    a word from the owner

    The Blew Bayou Story

For the last 15 years, this 67 C 10 has lived its life in Alaska and was only driven occasionally in the summer months.  It had a rebuilt 305 small block and 700 R-4 transmission.  The body was in great shape but the running gear needed to be rebuilt.  In the meantime, a close friend off mine sent his stock 37 Chevy pickup to Goodfellows Classic Cars in Phoenix for a complete rebuild and the truck turned out fantastic.  After riding and driving the 37, the decision was make to follow the same path with the 67.

The truck was sent to Goodfellows and the plan was to build a very clean driver with good handling and lots of power.  A Roadster Shop frame was chosen along with a supercharged LSA and 4L75 transmission.  The engine was modified with a Texas Speed Stage one cam, bushed rocker arms and a smaller supercharger pulley in order to get in the 650 horsepower range.

The primary focus of the project was, tire and wheel fitment and stance.  We knew the wheel wells would be a challenge because, being a truck, they are oversize even for today's larger diameter wheels.  To address this, the decision was made to completely cut out and fabricate new wheel wells that would fit the tires.  Not wanting to lower the truck and lose suspension travel, the wheel wells were also lowered an inch and a half so  the truck would look lower without losing ride height.

Other body mods consist of shaving the bumpers, flushing the taillights, removing the side marker lights, cleaning up the drip rail and closing the gaps.  The truck rides on 12" Forgeline wheels up front with 335 tires and 13" Forgeline wheels in back with 345 tires.  It is amazing that most people looking at this truck miss how big the tires and wheels are.  This is a testament to how well they fit the wheel wells and the quality of the fabrication and body work.  The goal withthe engine comparment was for a clean, mechanical look, highlighting the fabrication and craftmanship skills of the team.  The power steering, overflow tanks and air box have all been hand favricated and the hydroboost brake plumbing adds the mechanical look.  The lower firewall has moved forward two inches for leg room and the entire cab insulated for sound.

The truck runs and drives amazing.  I have had it over 100 mph several times with one hand on the wheel and the hydroboost brakes stop this truck link an anchor.  This truck was intended to be a driver, not a show truck, so many times during the build we had to remind ourselves not to go too far.  The skill and craftsmanship of the Goodfellows crew cannot be overstated and the results speak for themselves.  Working with AJ and his crew on this s project was so much fun and an experience I will never forget.
